Fed: Election funding facts
Electoral funding and money spent on election campaigns:
Public and private funding received 1999-00 to 2001-02
* Labor - $116.9 million
* Liberals - $102 million
Public and private funding received 2002-03 to 2004-05
* Labor - $150.8m
* Liberals - $133.4m
* $49 million in public funding was paid out to all political parties after the 2007
federal election; private donations figures for 2007 are yet to be released by the Australian
Electoral Commission
Spending on campaigns
* Labor spending increased by 116 per cent from 1984 to 2004
* Labor spent about $19.3m on the 2004 federal election campaign
* Liberals' spending increased 136 per cent from 1984 to 2004
* Liberals spent about $22m on the 2004 federal election campaign
