Fed: Swan says plenty of evidence stimulus working
CANBERRA, April 22 AAP - Treasurer Wayne Swan says Australia is in a better position
than other countries and there is evidence that the government's stimulus packages are
working.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has echoed comments by Reserve Bank of Australia governor
Glenn Stevens made on Tuesday that Australia is in recession.
"The point governor Stevens made yesterday is very important, because we are in a better
position than just about any other developed country in the world," Mr Swan told Sky News.
He also said it was "undeniable" that the economy was better off as a result of the
government's economic stimulus package last December.
Australia had better retail figures, much higher confidence and better conditions in
the housing sector in terms of demand from first home buyers.
"There is ample evidence around that economic stimulus has worked, is working and will
continue to work," he said.
