SA: PM announces 50 pc federal support for SA green package
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has announced the federal government will fund half of a
$65 million environment package for South Australia.
Mr HOWARD says the Federal Government will contribute $32 million towards the package,
with the remainder from the SA Government.
The funds will be used for new salt interception schemes, habitat restoration and coastal
and riverbank protection.
Mr HOWARD says the investment continues a co-operative effort between the federal government
and the state government to tackle problems of salinity and problems generally to do with
the environment.
He says this will result in an increase of flow of water in the Murray system.
The Prime Minister has made the announcement during a two day tour of regional South Australia.
